Sending cold emails is hard

I'm gonna be straight with you.

This conversation might cost me some sales. In fact, you might even unsubscribe because of it.

That's cool.

I'm gonna talk about this anyway.

Because it needs to be said:

Sending cold emails is hard.

Don't let anyone tell you different.

There's a rampant myth going around that says:

Whip up an email. Send that bugger off.

And watch the million$ pour in.

I've been sending cold emails for 7+ years. It's anything BUT easy.

Cold emails are for the determined.

Those with grit. Those who are able to keep going despite getting told no.

(This is, btw, my 2 yo. Never have you met a more stubborn muddaf**ker.)

Cold emails are for a rare individual.

Those who can experiment...

... who can take a roadmap, be okay with tweaking it to their personality, be okay with showing their true personality within an email to a stranger...

... and then follow up when that stranger doesn't reply.

Because you won't get a reply 60-90% of the time on your first cold email.

Your reader is in the middle of life. And life -- let’s be honest-- has interruptions, distractions, and kids who are hungry for dinner.

And that’s ok.

You can do hard things.

I know this because you’re here, still reading this email.

You’re a solopreneur (which is the hardest job as you’re determining strategy, implementing, doing client work, selling, basically wearing all the hats).

You’ve got grit.

And let’s talk about that follow up to an email to a stranger.

That’s grit.

Nay, it's confident.

It's swaggerlicious. (... is that even a word?!)

Being open to experimenting and doing hard work is crucial to a successful cold email. Researching your recipient is hard. So, 99% of the cold emails sent today haven’t been researched.

Rather, a list of bought leads has been segmented based on industry, job title, or another external factor, like location.

And then those leads are blasted with cold emails using weird tactics like bribing their recipient with a Yeti freezer of fresh meat. #truestory

No one is reaching out 1-1 with cold emails

Or even trying to answer their reader’s question, “What’s in it for me?”

…because it’s hard work.

Even though that method reaps great rewards.

No other marketing method gets you bigger results with a tiny audience.

9 times out of 10, when you post on social media, it’s crickets… unless you’re one of the few who built a big audience before you needed them.

But when you send a cold email that’s ultra-relevant, you have at least a 30% chance your reader will reply.

Those odds will get you into baseball’s Hall of Fame.

So if you're looking for the magic silver bullet

... the million-dollar handout from daddy to launch your business and still claim that you're "self-made"

... the instant overnight “success” that Hollywood has sold us again, again, again...

... you won't find that here.

But if you have grit, determination, and you’re ok with experimenting…

… you’re in the right place.

I’m honored to have you here.

You’re amazing,

Laura
