4 controversial things I believe about cold emails

A few controversial things I believe about cold emails:

1) Cold emails are for every business at every growth stage

I'm not saying you're pitching clients at every stage (those are just cold sales emails).

I'm just saying you sending an email to a stranger with a specific ask is suitable for every business.

2) Cold emails have to be relevant to your reader

Contrary to popular belief, personalization is not relevant to your reader.

Personalization doesn't speak to your reader's goals, motivations, desires...

…all innate powerful triggers for action.

Using just personalization (and not relevancy) is a fast-track to getting your email deleted. Or reported as spam.

3) Your cold email reader doesn't care about you.

Don't introduce yourself until the end of your email.

99% of the time, introducing yourself in the upper 80% of your email is a giant mistake.

Instead, use the PAS formula to answer your reader's question "What's in it for me?" without falling into the trap of thinking they care about you.

First: start off with your reader's problem.

Second: agitate that problem and make it hurt.

Third: set yourself up as the solution to their problem.

Introduce yourself... only as the solution to their problem.

4) Failing to use cold email stunts your business growth

Pursuing business growth by sacrificing your energy and time is a quick path to burnout.

Because you're finite.

Your time here on earth is limited.

Being on the hamster wheel of content creation as your ONLY marketing strategy sucks it away.

Choosing to not captain your own ship and multiply your growth by taking action to pursue clients... sucks it away.

Connecting with fellow solopreneurs on similar journeys (by using cold emails!) is a better pursuit in life.

You do cool things with cool people... doing cool things.

You connect with an audience of potential ideal clients.

You do more with less effort…

…by recycling the marketing you've got already, like a webinar, lead magnet, or topics you talk about with clients already.
